Icarus Brewing

A couples of weeks ago we packed up the equipment and hit the  road to Lakewood. Some of us visited one of the hottest breweries in NJ and talked to owner and head brewer Jason Goldstein. We discuss  his start and how fast the brewery has grown. Faster than he ever imagined. BTW, I said some of us visited the brewery, find out who didn't make it and why.

A new month brings a new episode and it will also bring a new brewery to South Jersey. Westville Brewery in downtown Westville will be opening their doors on June 23rd. We got to sit down and talk with husband and wife team of Mike and Pam, 2 of the owners.

We talked about the problems they encountered and what they are planning for their awesome space. They are a great couple and we wish them and their other partners all the best with their brewery.

  Remember, #drinklocal #trysomethingjersey

This is a very special episode which features 2 different interviews with Brotherton Brewing. Way back when we started our podcast, we visited the brewhouse and sat down and talked to Keith and Ryan. Our first attempt at an on location taping did not go so well. Frankly, we screwed it up and decided not to release it.

Then came AC Beer Fest, where our audio for that event wasn't so great either.  We decided to just have the old episode cleaned up and put it with the interview we did Keith at AC Beer Fest. You're getting a double dose of Brotherton in this episode so we hope you enjoy!

In the 2nd part of our Atlantic City Beerfest adventure, we talk to Ryan from Tonewood Brewing in Oaklyn, NJ, Canadian Dave Nuhn from our very 1st episode and Jason from Slacktide Brewing in Cape May Court House, NJ.

We had a great time talking to these guys and we want to thank them for stopping by. Make sure you stop by the breweries when you get the chance and enjoy some of the great beers they have. As far as Dave, maybe he will be on again.

We were fortunate enough to be invited to one of the premier beer fests in the US and joined others on podcast row. We got to meet a lot of great people and talk to a few Jersey brewers doing some great things.

First up is Rob from Ship Bottom Brewery in Beach Haven NJ. We then have Karl and Kurt from Bucket Brigade Brewery in Cape May Court House NJ. The last segment features Rob Callahan from Tuckahoe Brewing in Egg Harbor Twp, NJ

Make sure if you're ever nearby, stop in and have a beer. They are doing great stuff

In part 2 we are joined by Vic Sbailo from the Ocean County Brewers Association and writer for South Jersey Beer Scene. Kevin from Philly Beer Trail also joins us as we talk about beer and nothing else of importance.

Vic and Kevin are 2 great guys who know a lot about beer and are always out and about. Catch up to Vic at the Ocean County Brewers Association on Facebook and you can find Kevin at Philly Beer Trail on Facebook and Instagram.

Make sure you visit Manafirken Breweery, 450 E Bay Ave., Manahawken,NJ.

We packed up the equipment and headed down to Manafirkin Brewery in Manahawkin NJ. They are right on the way to LBI, so it's an easy stop on your way to the shore. Todd and Donn are great guys with an awesome taproom and even better beer. 20 plus taps and every beer was good.

The conversation was great, so much so, that Rob didn't even have to talk too much. he got to enjoy the beer. Listen to the gang as they have a great time. No, it was a great firkin time

We've added a bonus episode for you right before AC Beerfest. Our own host of the Jersey Beer Guys, Rob Towey, is also the co-host of the South Jersey Beer Scene podcast with John Couchoud. John was a guest  of the JBGs when they first started and John loved it so much that he decided to bring the SJBS website to a podcast.

Listen in as they talk to Mike Loc from Broken Goblet in PA. I know, not a Jersey brewery but an all around great guy who does live in NJ.Stop by and see everyone at Beerfest and say hi.

In part 2 of our interview, we continue the conversation with Vicki and Bob Hochgertel joins us also. We talk about how they came up the idea of a brewery in a dry town. We continue to talk about their beers and what they want to accomplish in the future.

Kevin Reilly from Philly Beer Trail joins us to talk about the Jersey leg of his trail. The trail is him documenting his travels to different breweries and highlighting the people, beers and brewers that he meets. Look for him on Facebook, Instagram and Twiitter

We visit Three 3s to try their beer, Unfathomable Transgression, a hazy lager. A totally awesome New Jersey style beer.

We talk with Keith Oriente, one of the owners of Brotherton and Mike Geller of Three 3s about their breweries and how they got together to do this.

We also talked to the guys responsible for brewing this beer, Mike Geller and his brother John along with Ryan from Brotherton about the ideas they had to create this beer.

Then we grabbed 2 people out of the tasting room to talk about their beer.

After we sat and talked to our home brewer guests, we were joined by Amy's husband Kevin and continued a discussion about stouts, porters and winter warmers. Amy declared how they are her favorite styles as her 5 hours expired.

We welcome Andrew Shilliday and Kurt Fritzsche, two home brewers who make some really good beer. We talk about the brewing process, their home brewing experiences and naturally try and get Amy to understand.

On this episode we sit down with John Couchoud from the website South Jersey Beer Scene, a site about all things craft beer in south Jersey. We talk about some different beer styles and what some of the brewers in south Jersey are doing. Naturally, Amy in inundated with too much info but we continue with our education of craft beer.

You'll have to forgive me because I was sick that night but there was no way I was gonna cancel this interview.

When you hear the word armageddon you think the end but this is just the beginning. Gill and Christian from Armageddon Brewing come in to talk to us about their plan to open one of, if not the first' Cider and mead tasting rooms in NJ. They talk about their plans and school us on hard cider and mead, which by the way, are ABSOLUTELY awesome.

We sit down inside of Wildfire studios and add Eric to the panel and are joined by Dave 2.0. We become more enlightened on the brewing process and styles of beer.
