The Show

When hobbies become obsessions, we often like to share what we know and love about them with others. Although we have dedicated the most time learning the ins/outs of beer, brewing, and breweries, we have also extended our knowledge on those things that complement it: bourbon, wine, coffee, food, and cooking. Listen in to Evan, Ryan, Mark, and Dan, and with periodic guests, dissect those crafts that we love to imbibe.

Evan and Ryan take you through 3 Floyds Brewing Co.'s Dark Lord Day 2018.  First, along with their friends, they share some amazing beers on the eve of the festival with the highlight being Modern Times' Monster Tones.  They also talk about Prairie Artisan Ales' Prairie Dawgs program and sample some their members beers.  Then it's off to the festival on Saturday with highlights being the variants, the food, and the camaraderie between festival goers.  What was the overall favorite of the day?  Listen to find out!  Cheers from P+P!!

We talk to John McGarry, Captain and Founder, of Brink Brewing Co. in Cinncinati, OH, on how the brewery got started and how their community focused vision made them one of the most interesting stories in craft beer.  John, along with his founding team of Sarah (his wife), Kelly (his brother), Mark (brother-in-law), and Andrew (long time family friend) have not only brought home well deserved hardware for their fantastic beers but built a brewery centered on the neighborhood of College Hill which has embraced them with open arms.  Listen in to John tell the story on how it all started with Brink while Mark and Evan sip on a few of their incredible offerings.

Evan, Ryan, and Mark venture into new territory where we each take a turn with a blind tasting of beers we each brought.  Let's just say, we learned a lot about our palates!  Ryan also shares a very special bottle in celebration of his trip to Nashville which included a stop at Bearded Iris Brewing.  Mark fills us in on Idyll Hounds Brewing Co. and his trip to Florida and Evan discusses his trip to Austin, TX, and Jester King Brewery.  Mark also pulls out a french pressed beer for further confuse us!  Cheers from P+P!!

Dan and Evan sit down for another "fireside chat" and recap what's been going good on our beginnings of our podcast.  We get to tease Ryan and Mark since they weren't present to defend themselves and venture off topic about Dippin' Dots and becoming a Cicero..no, nope, no, don't say it!  We also look forward to what the next episodes have in store for us including many interviews with some our local obsessions!  Cheers everyone!!

Sara, owner of The Spot Coffee, invites us to her shop to talk about our favorite morning beverage.  She gives us insight on what makes her place so special and how it all started.  Also joining the conversation are brothers Tristan and Mitch from CxT Roasting Company where we get schooled on the process of roasting coffee beans.  Don't worry, we were able to enjoy plenty of coffee beers in the process and help bridge the divide between our two favorite liquids: beer and coffee.  Cheers and enjoy!!

Dan and Evan discuss strategies and tips to make the best of your upcoming beer festival.  We sip on some newly available beers to our area from Old Nation Brewing Company while we help with the proper way to prepare and have an awesome time at the next beer event you attend.  Go to hoppedupnetwork.com to catch all of our episodes and other great podcasts about craft beer!  Also head to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to keep up with our musings, cheers Provisionists!!

Evan Skypes in with Ryan to get his take on how Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. Assassin Day 2018 is going.  It's cold, windy, and full of dedicated beer enthusiasts from around the world for those seeking out the whiskey barrel aged imperial stout.  Sounds like all is well with the 2018 edition with lots of viscous dark fruit flavors.  We also hear from friends waiting outside the brewery for their much anticipated variants which included coffee and coconut.  Thanks to our support from the Hopped Up Network, go check our the newest episode and all our great partners!  Cheers from P+P!!

Shooting from the hip on this episode where Evan, Mark, Ryan, and Dan talk about beers and college basketball teams.  We taste pastry stouts from Angry Chair Brewing and More Brewing Co. and sample sours from Casey and Jester King.  No direction here other than letting us do what we do best: comradery between four passionate beer guys trying to get through a podcast before we are stranded by a spring snowstorm!  Cheers from P+P!!

Ryan and Evan geek out in the nerdiest way possible as they dissect J. Wakefield Brewing's "It Was All A Dream".  We provide a little background on the Miami based brewery while taking listener questions and sharing our favorite beer and food pairings.  From the simplest of beers to the big barrel aged adjunct stouts to your cellared barleywines, we provide some pearls on how you can intellectualize the most complex of beers.  Cheers from P+P!!

Dan talks to Evan about his experience at the Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Beer Festival held at Fifth Third Ballpark near Grand Rapids, MI.  He talks about the best beers and biggest surprises in addition to what makes it such a great event.  We sip on some Michigan beers while we talk about what makes Michigan such a great beer state.  Cheers from P+P!

Evan, Mark, Ryan and special guest Bryan get you schooled on making a great charcuterie board so guests are never disappointed.  Bryan certainly drops knowledge on how to best pair meats, cheeses, and accoutrements with our beers while we crack a Side Project La Ruche.  Then we dip into the "milkshake" IPA style where Tired Hands are the leaders and others follow suit such as Bearded Iris Brewing "Mood Ring".  We also enjoy breaking down a blind taste test provided by Ryan.  Beyond that, we talk local beer projects and events such as the new Bearded Owl release just in time for St. Patrick's Day.  Thanks again to Bryan for his input and we look forward to next time when we interview Dan on his experience at the recent Great Michigan Beer Festival in Grand Rapids.  Cheers from P+P!!

Join Evan, Ryan, and Mark for a (more or less) live recording of a homebrewing crash course!  We brew a NE style IPA and crack some Aslin and Side Project/Casey beers while we walk through some of the integral steps of the brewing process.  Also included is a shout out to Ss Brewtech and Rufus Teague for enhancing our experience with brewing and smoking meat.  Included for your listening pleasure are neighbors driving by, garage doors opening, equipment banging, and kids screaming upstairs!  Looking forward to the finished product, cheers from P+P!!

The entire crew is together for a dive into beer destination vactions (beercations).  First, we review the best beers we drank this week and what's going on in craft beer at the moment.  Then we taste beers from Oregon breweries deGarde and Great Notion, California breweries Bottle Logic and SARA, and taste brews from Hill Farmstead and Trillium.  It's good to have everyone together!  Cheers from the P+P Crew!!

Dan joins Mark and Evan (we missed Ryan today) for a dive into the Hazy IPA craze.  East coast, West coast, and no coast hazy IPAs are sampled.  Where are the best ones brewed?  Why are these so good?  Is there fatigue setting in on this style?  From Treehouse to Monkish we look at why we love this style and where the good ones are.  Lots of coverage on some local breweries such as Bearded Owl and Triptych.  Also a brief sample of some locally roasted coffee and destinations for the "Beercation".  Cheers from the P+P crew!!

On our pilot episode we spend much of our precious beer time tasting and talking about some great bourbons.  We cover using a french press to create your own pastry stout.  Finally we taste one of the pastry stouts from Angry Chair Brewing, Imperial German Chocolate Coffee Cupcake stout.  Shout outs to some local establishments here in Peoria include Whiskey City Architectural Salvage, Bearded Owl Brewing, and Industry Brewing.  Brief topics include meat smoking and beer-cations (beer destination vacations).  Cheers from the P+P crew!!
