Episode 17: 2018 South Jersey Beer Half Year in Review!

On this episode, we look back at the first half of 2018 while drinking some of the beer son the Zymurgy Magazine Best Beers in America list including Bell's Two-Hearted Ale, Founders KBS, Founders CBS, and Founders Breakfast Stout.  Vic is salty about the list and he tells us why he hates top ten lists and how it is all just a matter of opinion.

We also talk about the new breweries that have opened in South Jersey and how many that South Jersey can support.  John tells us why there are too many festivals, we revisit the formation of a new Brewer's guild and the pending ABC legislation rumors that are running rampant in the industry.

John Howard-Fusco of Eating in South Jersey, Rafael Pena-Medina, and Richard Rabic our producer and Co-host of the great "Fear of A Craft Beer Planet" Podcast also sit in with John, Rob, and Vic.

Happy New Year and welcome to our first show of 2024.  We have something a little different on tap for the new year.  Manafirkin hosted a Singer/Songwriter showcase last month and Vic had the opportunity to interview several of the musicians before the show as well Todd Hunt, co owner of the brewery.  So instead of hearing about yeast and mash tuns, you’ll hear about Fenders and Martins and sound systems.  Thanks for listening hope you enjoy it!

As always the podcast road features a lot of detours as we discuss the Jersey Devil, Black Garlic Beer and the illustrious history of the brewery. Thanks for listening!

The conversation runs the gamut, as they discuss GABF in Denver (Vic met his brew hero, Sam Calgione), restraining orders and  Jason shares his experience of winning a GABF medal for Avalon Amber in 2018.       We also discuss the new expanded brewery, while Rachel shares some upcoming events happening at Slack Tide.      Curiously we finish on the subject of UFOs once again and the gang commits to a future podcast at Mark’s place, ETs welcome!

Vic and Richard are joined by Alexis in the actual basement as they host Donn, Lisa and Brandon from Manafirkin Brewing Company.

In one of our more wide ranging conversations we talk about the brewery expansion, distribution,  canning and, of course, try some delicious Manfirkin beers.

Manafirkin is a featured brewery at the Made in Jersey festival on September 30,  so this show features a new edition of the world famous (well at least in our world)  "So You Think You Can Jersey?" quiz show.

Oh and...there is also UFO talk!

Thanks for giving us a listen!

We're BAAAACK!  Vic and Richard were joined by SJBS OG Tom at Mudhen Brewing in Wildwood. The boys had a great time talking with Tony, Mary Pat and Brian, about the history of Mudhen, the beer community in Cape May County. Of course we got to taste some delicious Mudhen beer into a barrel aged version of the award winning Wee Heavy Wilson.

Stay tuned for more upcoming episodes!
