Weezie’s 12 is a short form podcast by Cheers Charlotte host Jay Weezie.  Jay asks the same 12 questions to Industry, Influencers and Amateurs in the food and beverage world. Some questions are simple and some are little more thought provoking.  They all are in good fun to give you another side of the people that serve you beer, cook your food, or you follow on Instagram.

In between full length episodes of Cheers Charlotte you’ll get these 10-20 minute episodes of Weezie’s 12.  Each week is a different person sometimes suggested by a previous guest of the show, but always someone interesting and creative.

This week Weezie talks with Sam Fitz from D.C. based Anxo Cidery.  Sam did a zoom talk on his cider in 2020 with Weezie in attendance and his knowledge of the segment is astounding.  So he thought he would be great to have on and get his answers to the 12 questions.  Look for Anxo ciders all over North Carolina and if you dont see it, ask for it.

Now lets get his answers to the 12 questions...

We’re very excited to welcome Vaulted Oak Brewing to the Charlotte beer community. Our long-time friend Kiel Arrington joins us to talk about his vision becoming a reality. Kiel and head brewer David Carey sit down with us to share a couple of pints and talk about what makes Vaulted Oak a unique experience. Opening a new brewery is never a walk in the park but opening one in an old bank adds a few extra challenges. Be sure to stop by Vaulted Oak in the MoRA neighborhood to try a great beer made by great people.

Our taste palates would also like to thank Toby Hufhand and Fabio Durazzo of Sal’s Pizzeria for bringing out some of the best pizza in Charlotte. We got to talk with the duo about their philosophy on pizza and beer.

Just down the road from Charlotte is the town of Mt. Pleasant.  No more than a year ago this farming community was home to little more than a What-A-Burger and a bunch of fishing holes.  (The Avett Brothers are officially from Concord) Now a new industry has sprung up, and it’s what our country grandparents always warned us about, booze!  Southern Grace Distillery has taken up home in the old prison as their bonded manufacturing facility.  We were hosted by owner, Leanne Powell, and head distiller, Sebastian Correa, on a private tour to check out the revamped cell blocks and hot box.  This jail has become a tourist destination for Mt. Pleasant and it is worth the trip.  Thanks to updated NC alcohol laws you can now purchase up to 5 bottles of their bourbon or whiskey at the company store and they host monthly late night ghost tours!  We then traveled no more than a couple of miles up the road to Downtown Mt. Pleasant and to the home of 73 & Main, a new upscale steak and bourbon restaurant.  Majority owned by local Dr. Allen Dobson, who we were privileged to have join our table us for dinner and a bourbon sampling, this restaurant was designed to bring the locals what they desired.  We were treated to fine steaks, exceptional seafood and an impressive appetizer sampler paired with Southern Grace bourbon inspired cocktails and an all NC tap list.  GM Anthony Misuraca explained our dishes and drinks just like you would expect from a big city establishment and was a refreshing taste of service that the rural parts of the county have long struggled with.  Southern Grace and 73 & Main should be commended for what they bring to their small town and are sure to be examples for small business for years to come.
