Presented by House Enterprise, hosted by Jake Zimmer and Will Tondo. The name explains itself. We’ll be discussing craft beer, the latest business news, and what's going on in the world of sports. Join us for weekly conversations and interviews with industry leaders and guests around the nation.
RNR Preview Part 2 with Smidge the Doorman
Can’t get enough RNR? We couldn’t preview Rough N’ Rowdy without Providence legend Smidge the Doorman, who seeks his 4th win tonight in West Virginia against Heartbreaker. Smidge brings up his RNR beginnings after getting drunkenly signed up at a bar. We discuss his preparation, riding to the venue with his opponent, and what to expect afterwards. Side note: whoever wants to join us for a pint at Harry’s on the Hill is more than welcome…

BEERS: We haven’t done a live episode in a hot second, so to celebrate we review some beers live too! Will reviews a Finback-Narragansett collab in “Neighbor Neighbor,” a sea salt lager to kick off Summer Beer Season. Jake reviews Whammy, a double dry hopped IPA from one of New York’s finest, Singlecut Beersmiths.
BUSINESS: What better way to transition segments than a “beer business” story? Nothing like a LaGuardia Airport story to piss everyone off! Apparently a restaurant at New York’s worst airport is accused of price-gouging after multiple merchants were charged $27 for a Sam Summer Ale. Is this intentional or an honest error?
BALLS (25:30): Bobby “Lights Out” Laing is Rough N’ Rowdy’s favorite fighter, and for good reason. The Pride of Braintree, Massachusetts is an undefeated 6-0 in RNR fights, including a beatdown in Providence back in 2019. This week, Lights Out looks to clean the clock of Big Dick Booty Daddy, who’s had quite the mouth in preparation of the fight. Bobby talks with us about training, preparation, and his Tale of the Tape podcast.

The House Enterprise collab you've been waiting for. Our guys at “Small State Big Takes” join the show! It’s been over a year since Mike Gilligan and Oliver Martel hopped on our show to talk college hoops back on Episode 43, and now Stephen O. Scott joins in on the fun. The guys start off with baseball, and SSBT is not happy about the Red Sox’ season so far. Where do the problems begin, and how do they get solved? Where will Xander Bogaerts end up? Who should be the closer? We move to the Yankees, where two big questions stand out: does Aaron Judge stick around, and is it World Series or bust? We make our House Parlay for baseball picks this week, and although it’s a long shot, we’re all in. We finish with NBA talk: everything from the Celtics and trading Russell Westbrook to the Knicks, to a potential LeBron swap to Oklahoma City.

Frank “The Tank” Fleming, Barstool Sports (39:00 mark)
BEERS: It’s back to Boston this week, as we both take a crack at some of the City of Champions’ most popular spots. Jake stops at North Shore favorite Lord Hobo’s new location in Seaport, and comes home with an exclusive mixed four-pack that can only be purchased at their location. This time around, it’s “DROP,” a milkshake double-IPA. It’s got punch, it’s got flavor, and it’s got substance…what will Jake’s rating be? Will talks the Trillium Fort Point dilemma; while it’s full of good craft beer to please everyone’s appetites, it’s become a bit too much of a “pregame” spot for all the wrong reasons. Really Big Bird, however, is a HUGE standout beer that is definitely contributing to the out-the-door lines.
BUSINESS: In our two years of podcasting, we feel like every single business segment has been leading to this. Elon Musk has officially reached a deal with Twitter, buying the social media company for a whopping $44 billion. How did the king of memes - the same guy who built two of the most promising companies in Tesla and SpaceX - become the owner of social media’s biggest platforms? We discuss the Paypal Mafia, who could potentially be in Elon’s C-Suite, and make bets on when (or if) this purchase actually goes through. In other news, Amazon has seen better days - they’re down 26% in the past month alone due to labor crises, supply chain issues, and a disappointing earnings call. Is now the time to buy Amazon stock, or has the window come-and-gone?
BALLS (presented by Manscaped): It’s not every day you get the chance to talk with a character like Frank “The Tank” Fleming. From soda & hot dog reviews, to tireless rants about the Mets & Nets, you’ve seen Frank’s musings on social media before. We discuss how far the Mets can go, why “Steve Trash” should be fired in Brooklyn, and who the New Jersey Devils should be building around in the coming years. Frank also needed to express his extreme dissatisfaction with NJ Transit. In other news, the Yankees are the hottest team in baseball, and they’re right up there with their Big Apple counterparts in the Mets. We debate if we actually want a Subway Series Fall Classic. We also give our NFL Draft recap and declare our draft winners & losers.

Our two-year anniversary is here! We cannot thank our loyal listeners enough for two years of support, love, and listens. We started this podcast as a passion project in the early stages of Covid, and with your help, have grown it to new heights. We'll always stay true to our core of discussing some of our favorite things: craft beer, the latest business news, and sports & entertainment across the world. Thanks for listening, we love you all! We bring back two all-time guests to celebrate our two years of existence, and we crown them House Enterprise Hall of Famers.
Dave Silverman (3:04) nearly had his livelihood as a sports photographer taken away from him when Covid hit. Now, two years after he became the first ever BBB guest, he rejoins the show with too many gigs to count. We discuss going zero-to-a hundred after sports started again, the Patriots' future with Mac Jones, Tom Brady's dilemma in Tampa Bay, and much more.
John Fanta (57:21) is everyone's favorite college basketball announcer, and for good reason. After years of hard work, he found his way to millions of cable TV sets this year, getting the call for nationally-televised broadcasts of Big East basketball this year. We welcome John back to the show as a four-time guest. John tells us the stories of his favorite basketball moments this year, including breaking the news of Jay Wright's retirement and calling games with legendary analyst Bill Raftery. We discuss Cleveland sports, the DeShaun Watson & Baker Mayfield saga, and the NBA's problem with effort. Fun fact: John also holds the record for most beers consumed in an episode, but sadly that record was not touched today.
POSITIVITY CORNER: Charlie Capalbo showed the world what it meant to be a fighter. The 23-year-old passed away on Sunday after a five-year battle with cancer, but left a lasting impact on the world for all across the nation to remember. We shine light on the incredible stuff that Sigma Chi at Bryant University is doing this week to becoming 'The Generation To End Cancer'.

BEERS: Brato Brewhouse in Boston is putting a new spin on New England IPA’s. Will tries Brighton Hoppy #7, which holds its own for a new style of IPA. Can NEIPA’s with Eastern European influence make a solid beer? Jake returns to Dockside Brewery in Milford, Connecticut, and they’ve loaded up their menu. Docksicle is the selection today, and it’s a beauty. Should all breweries have the food menu that Dockside does?
BUSINESS(26:23): We wrap up our Founders and Friends live interview series! Adam Alpert knew there had to be a better way to leverage the amount of talent coming from colleges. So he built Pangea.app, a freelance market connecting college students with opportunities. Adam and the guys discuss building an app, going through Y Combinator, and what’s next for Pangea.
BALLS (presented by Manscaped): Week 2 of the MLB is in the books. What did we learn? For Jake, it’s that the Mets are (regrettably) good. For Will, the Dodgers are coming into their own as possibly the best team we’ve seen in years. We discuss the Yankees’ less-than-ideal start to the season and what’s making them so horrible. We also select our Cy Young favorites. Plus some NBA playoff coverage and a hat tip to DPOY Marcus Smart.

EPISODE 83: Moerlein Lager House & Forbes 30-Under-30’s Pierre Lipton of 1440 Media plus The BBB Pod turns 2!
BEERS (9:34): While prohibition closed the doors of many breweries in America, it only made the story of the Christian Moerlein brand stronger. We sit down to discuss the evolution of Moerlein beer with head brewer Curtis Eulberg and Brewers Association member/award-winning homebrewer Roxanne Westendorf, live from the Moerlein Lager House at Riverfront Park in Downtown Cincinnati. Bavarian immigrant Christian Moerlein loved to brew hearty European beers, and his product quickly made its way across the world. While prohibition halted most new beers in the early 1900s, Moerlien couldn’t be stopped; they re-opened in 1981 and pioneered the resurgence of craft beer in Cincinnati. We discuss with Curtis & Roxanne the importance of staying true to the original German recipe, the location in downtown Cincinnati, and the different Bock-style beers from the weekend.
BUSINESS (43:10): Forbes 30-Under-30 winner Pierre Lipton was troubled by the fact that two people of slightly differing beliefs could have fundamentally different understandings of what’s happening in the world, in large part due to their media diet. So in 2017, he founded 1440 Media, a free direct-to-email newsletter to make the news fact-based and easy to digest. 1440 Media saw $7 million in revenue in 2021, but they’re not done growing. Pierre sits down with us live from Long Live Beerworks in Providence to discuss his explosive growth and the future of 1440 Media.
BALLS (presented by Manscaped): Kansas makes history by staging a 15-point comeback in an epic National Championship game. The Bryant Bulldogs make a mark of their own, though, landing some key transfers thanks to Peter Kiss’ ambassador skills. Now that baseball is back, we revisit our picks from last week. Are the Dodgers really that good? What’s in store for the Yankees after an opening series win over the Red Sox? We make our picks for Rookie of the Year. 25-year-old Scottie Scheffler is on a tear, and his latest stop is the Masters. Is Tiger Woods overdue to hang up the golf shoes? We close with predictions for the NBA Playoffs.

BEERS: Revival is both one of Rhode Island’s staples and up-and-coming locations. Now, with new beers and a new buzz, Will tries the brand-new Extra Thirsty IPA. At 10.5%, where does this stack up among the region’s triple IPA’s? Everyone loves Trader Joe’s, and we’re no exception, so Jake takes a crack at one of their thirteen beers you can find in a state where alcohol in grocery stores is legal. Josephsbrau PLZNR is today’s choice, and while it’s certainly not the best pilsner on the market, Jake’s glad he tried it.
BUSINESS: It’s been a long while since we’ve had any significant Amazon news, but the recent vote by its front-line workers might have just made up for it. Amazon’s Staten Island warehouse will be the first in company history to unionize, and it’s sending ripples across the world. Amazon has fought labor unions in its workforce, but now it faces a critical dilemma and still remains at the forefront of the labor crisis - will this throw lead times, staff, and same-day-deliveries into a spiral? Also, we crown our first Entrepreneur of the Week to a German man that was vaccinated 90 times so he could sell the vaccination cards. Kudos…
BALLS (27:31): Former NBA player and Duke National Champion Chris Duhon joins the show. We discuss his journey to getting a full scholarship at Duke, being recruited by Coach K, and winning the national championship with Carlos Boozer & Jay Williams in 2001. Chris tells us some of the lessons he learned from Coach K, his philosophy on how the Duke teams should operate, and some of the things that truly make him the best coach of all time. We also discuss his 9-year NBA career as a reliable point guard, including on the 2012-13 “Superteam” LA Lakers with Kobe Bryant. Now an assistant coach at Bryant, Chris tells us about the Bulldogs’ first ever conference championship in March, and his first time back at March Madness since 2004. We close the show with a recap & predictions for the NCAA title game on Monday night, and preview the beginning of the MLB season.

BEERS (11:42) : Our Cincinnati journey continues! For our next stop, we hit a local (and even national) favorite in Rhinegeist Brewery. Located in the historic Over-The-Rhine district, Rhinegeist’s home was a pre-prohibition bottling plant, and has since evolved into a beer brand loved by Ohioans across the state. Assistant GM Aislinn Brown and Director of Education Chris Shields sit down with us over a few pints of Rhinegeist beer. We discuss the role that Cincinnati played during prohibition and the German influence on the taproom & beer style. We also try Rhinegeist’s flagship IPA, Truth, which made the list of top 100 beers in the world in 2014.
BUSINESS (41:34): Bradley Adams and Ali Bozzutto found a real problem upon which they built Aerogami - the accessibility of information. Picture this: you get into a small fender-bender, and you exchange information with the other party. But there’s only one problem; since you have your insurance policy information on the app, and you’re in an area with no service, you don’t know your policy number! Aerogami’s products aim to solve many different challenges in a “no-code” fashion - from travel and insurance to public safety. We chat with Bradley and Ali at the Founders & Friends event at Long Live Beerworks in Providence, RI.
BALLS (Presented by MANSCAPED): The Final Four…er, the Blue Bloods Classic…has arrived! Kansas, Duke, Villanova, and North Carolina are the last teams standing in a year that’s featured more mayhem than recent seasons. Duke and UNC are set to meet for the first time in March Madness history; what kind of fireworks should we expect? Is this Coach K’s destiny? Can Villanova get back to the championship? Now that baseball’s within reach, we set the stage for the return of the MLB.
BBBBONUS: If you have a phone, you saw Will Smith slap the shit out of Chris Rock. Staged or real?

Two Part Interview: We continue our coverage of the Founders and Friends live show, plus we kickoff our interview series from Bockfest.
Beers (10:53): Every founder has a story. Mike Neilan's story comes from an accident. After a skateboarding injury that took him out, Mike picked up a camera in 2009 and hasn't turned back since. With a new passion, Mike went to college, gained experience, built his portfolio, and years later met his Co-Founder (ironically named Mike). The two met at a job and instantly hit it off. They knew their talents meshed well, and were ready to make a brand for themselves. It wasn't until 2018 where their dreams became a reality. Now a few years later, over 50 clients worth of work, a new office space, and a team being built, Focus Forward Media has taken the Ocean State by storm. We sit down with Mike to talk about starting a company in Rhode Island, how to take a leap of faith, and what the future looks like for Focus Forward Media
Business (35:26): Everybody knows the conglomerate called The Boston Beer Company. Founded in 1984 with their first brand of beer being Sam Adams, they are now considered the fourth largest brewer in the United States. Boston may be in its name, but the company has deep roots within the Cincinnati community. Founder Jim Koch, the craft beer pioneer, grew up in Cincy, where his father and grandfather were both employed at local breweries. In 1997, Koch purchased the Hudepolh-Schoenling brewery on Central Parkway, Cincinnati. Generations of Koch brewers had worked their and they revolutionized it to be the main production brewery for Samuel Adams beers. In 2018, the OTR Taproom opened, and since then has blessed the community with a variety of Sam Adams favorites and exclusives. "Beers, Business, and Balls" Podcast had a chance to sit down with Keith McEly, who is the General Manager of the Cincy Taproom. He goes over their list of what's on tap, the rich history of the Ohio Beer scene and Sam Adams, and how the space has grown over the years.
Balls: Our brackets have been busted for quite some time, but we recap the first two rounds of the tournament and talk about what's in store. We also dive into NFL and MLB free agency, and drop our favorite signings and biggest surprises.

THREE-FOR-ONE: Founders and Friends Recap Episode Part 1 and Bonus Bryant Hoops + Live Reaction of the Yankees trade
BEERS (4:32) : It’s not every day that a titan of the New England beer industry is willing to discuss their craft. In this week’s episode, we sit down with Veronica Pesak, the Taproom Manager at podcast favorite Long Live Beerworks. We discuss some of the new beers Long Live has been brewing, the importance of adapting and finding new customers (especially during COVID’s early days), and some future plans for Long Live Beerworks.
BUSINESS (15:33): Nick Cianfaglione dropped out of Bryant to take the entrepreneurial plunge. When we last chatted with him in 2021, he was the Founder of Artist Republik, a revolutionary product for the music industry…and now, he’s been acquired and enjoying the proverbial 9-to-5 life. Nick is giving back to the startup community that helped him launch his venture by founding StartupRI, a group for founders based in Rhode Island to collaborate and share ideas. We discuss his future plans live from Long Live Beerworks.
BALLS (37:10) : For the first time in program history, the Bryant Bulldogs are Northeast Conference Champions! America’s favorite walk-on Timmy Kiggins joins the show after a few days of celebrating to take us through the last few days of life as a champion. We discuss what he’s learned from working with the nation’s leading scorer in Peter Kiss, what it means to be a crowd favorite, and the attitude in the Bryant locker room that’s prepared them for March Madness. The Bulldogs travel to Dayton to take on Wright State in the First Four; the winner gets a tough test against #1-seed Arizona.

BEERS: Will took an excursion to Tree House’s Cape Cod location. While the vibe didn’t match the original Tree House, it was definitely an experience to remember. He had Galactic Storm Peach, Very Hazy Mango, and Oreo And Miles To Go Before I Sleep, all with some raving reviews. Jake took it up to Massachusetts, too, and Notch Brewing in Salem was this weekend’s selection. We can’t remember when the last time either of us has had a Dunkel, but Voll Projekt Dunkel Weisse breaks the curse and has some surprisingly good tastes.
BUSINESS: Gary Goldberg was a third-generation textile manufacturer who knew the ins-and-outs of the industry. When he realized that the sports industry was “stuck in the 90’s,” he knew something had to change. Enter SquadLocker - Rhode Island’s #1-ranked startup - disrupting the hyper-local, intensely-fragmented athletic apparel market. Gary discusses the growth of SquadLocker from an apparel manufacturer to a tech leader, raising more than $40 million, and adding former Super Bowl winners & pro athletes to the team. SquadLocker is the official merch partner of House Enterprise. (12:00)
BALLS: Was the Super Bowl boring or good? We discuss our performances at the kiosk, and what wagers paid off. With baseball seemingly at a standstill, all eyes are on college basketball. We break down Juwan Howard’s suspension for hitting Greg Gard in the face. We also discuss the current Big East standings, and with 2 wins to go for the regular season title, Providence is in the driver’s seat after Villanova’s loss to UConn on Tuesday.

We recap an amazing time at the Rhode Island Brew Fest this past weekend. The final count was just under 70 tasters of beer over the many vendors in attendance! We each shout out some of our favorites from the weekend - including a light coffee porter, a juicy New England IPA, and a cucumber lime seltzer from a popular RI beer company. We also catch up with Matt Gray, the founder of the RI Brew Fest & Ragged Island Brewing Company, to discuss the significance of this event to local breweries and what’s in store for the future.
The Super Bowl is finally here! Who are we backing on Sunday? Can Joe Burrow ride his nationwide fame to a victory, or will Matt Stafford finally get the ring he’s been chasing his whole career? We break down some must-bet props that you should be considering at the window this week.

BEERS: All snow storms are just an opportunity to try some craft beers deep in the fridge. With almost 2 feet of snow coming down in Rhode Island and Will’s birthday this weekend, we jumped right to the task. Will reviews Winter Warmer from our friends at Moniker - it’s a different take on one of the most popular cold-weather beer styles in the region with a hint of hot peppers. Jake gives his review on Rhode Island powerhouse Grey Sail’s take on an eggnog beer - “Kegnog” - and has mixed reviews.
BUSINESS: Fifteen years ago, Jesse Cole (18:23) went to play baseball at a small school in South Carolina. Now, he’s the brains behind one of America’s fastest-growing baseball brands. The Savannah Bananas are rewriting the rules on what it means to be a sports team; they sing their walk-up songs, they take batting practice on stilts, and they dance the night away…all during the game. Jesse Cole, who has owned the Bananas for 6 years now, joins us this week to discuss how he turned a failing minor league team into the greatest show in baseball.
BALLS: We’ve finally got a Super Bowl matchup. In a crazy weekend of football, the Bengals took advantage of their opportunity and picked off the Chiefs in overtime - RIP Jackson Mahomes! Meanwhile, the 49ers couldn’t add onto their streak of beating the LA Rams, and are going home empty-handed, while the Rams will become the second team ever (and second straight, too!!) to play a Super Bowl on their home field. We give our gut reactions to the Rams-Bengals matchup.

We’re bringing “Bachelor with a Bro” to the BBB Pod! You know Jesse Palmer (13:15) from his days as a backup quarterback in the NFL, and his studio analysis for College Football on ESPN. Now, he ventures off into hosting one of the most popular reality shows in the world! Jesse joins us to discuss what’s on tap for Season 26 of The Bachelor, as former pro football player Clayton Echard searches for love. Jesse teases some of the major storylines to look out for in this week’s episode, and leaves a trail of breadcrumbs for what Clayton might be looking for in a partner. Jesse also tells us how his career in sports broadcasting has prepared him for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
BEERS: Our Bachelor with a Bro pioneer, Zach Mastrianni, joins the show this week to have some beer. Episode 69 (nice) features one of the OG guests and now a two-time recurring feature on our show, Eric Dunn. Some knew him from Vine & Snapchat, but now many more know him for his podcast “Dunn & Drew” and the content he’s been creating for the Jacksonville Jaguars. We discuss the NFL scene, the fate of the Jags, the future of Trevor Lawrence, and debate if the Detroit Lions will ever win a game. We also catch up on Eric’s new ventures in content creation & what’s next.
At the beginning of our show, we break down our recent trip to the happiest place on earth: Tree House Brewing Company. It’s been a while since we took the trip up to the shining beacon on a hill in Charlton, MA, but it was well-worth it. We review the new “Julius 4-Ways” mixed pack, which features four different versions of America’s favorite beer, Julius. Will takes us through his thoughts on Julius Mango, and Jake has nothing but great things to say about Creamsicle, making an outrageous claim at the segment’s end. Jim McCune co-founded the Craft Beer Marketing Awards in 2019, only to have COVID delay its launch in the way he would’ve hoped. Now, he’s created one of the most popular awards among beer creators in “The Crushies,” which are given to those making a splash in the craft beer marketing scene. We discuss Jim’s career as a graphic designer, his lessons learned from working at Blue Point Brewery in New York, and what’s next for the CBMA’s.
BUSINESS:So much for anonymity! Two men are going to trial with the same goal: to prove that they were the one true founder of Bitcoin. With $66 billion in BTC on the table, the stakes are higher than ever in this first-of-its-kind legal battle. How can Ira Kleiman and Craig Wright each legally prove that they own the pile of cryptocurrency up for grabs. If that’s not enough crypto news for you, we’ve got more: an investor group is raising money to buy one of the only certified copies of the US Constitution.
BALLS (presented by MANSCAPED): College basketball is here! What did we learn in week 1? Is Gonzaga the team to beat? Is Loyola moving to the A-10 a good call? In NFL news, the Los Angeles Rams are the team to beat, but got trounced by the 49ers with their new-look team; what went wrong? As for a quick check on the NBA, the Golden State Warriors are red-hot with a 11-2 start, seemingly out of nowhere.

A loaded show kicks off two guests who are family of the House Enterprise crew.
You’ve seen his “Morbid Facts” and “Insane Coincidences” on TikTok. You’ve retweeted his early pics of the Loch Ness Monster, and you most certainly recognize his mustache. Connor Krajcsik (known as @con_spiracy on TikTok) was our 2nd guest ever, and now he rejoins us more than a year and a half later to discuss the latest in a crowded conspiracy world. We debate if aliens exist, and if so, how they interact with us. We break down the new rumors about Anthony Fauci dumping fuel on the fire that has been COVID-19, and learn about his troubled past in public health. We also discuss Elon Musk’s success as a personality and a businessman in recent times, and make our bets on when he’ll inevitably become the world’s first trillionaire.
In the sports world: Josh Adams founded College Hoops Digest in 2012, and now is kicking off Season 12 with a bang. We’re proud to announce that House Enterprise and College Hoops Digest are joining forces for this upcoming year. Josh joins us to discuss what consumers can expect on this next edition of the site.

BEERS: As sure as the sun will shine, we went back to Malted Barley, Providence’s best beer bar. Will went for the IPA’s on our Saturday trip, and reviewed Virid - a staple from Connecticut’s own Fox Far Brewery. Jake informally kicks off #StoutSzn with the onset of November with Left Hand’s famous Peanut Butter Milk Stout that will leave you craving a piece of pie or your favorite dessert.
BUSINESS: Nobody likes to think about what it’ll be like when they die, but after she lost three loved ones, Emily Cisek knew the process had to change. So after a solid career in public relations and marketing, Emily founded The Postage Inc., a full-service platform to digitize legacy planning. Emily talks with us about her formative days at Bryant University, her big move to Texas, and how she’s been able to pass on this important message of The Postage to investors.
BALLS (presented by MANSCAPED): Mayhem in the NFL this week! The New York Jets won another game...is Mike White is the second coming? The Arizona Cardinals are no longer undefeated, and Aaron Rodgers looks to be as good as new. Are the re-tooled Rams the team to beat in the NFC? In the MLB world, the Atlanta Braves sit on the cusp of a World Series victory, just needing one win to clinch. Can they fend off the pesky Houston Astros in their home park? And finally in the hockey world, there are 3 undefeated teams left a couple weeks into the year...are any of them for real? Jake declares his fandom for the Islanders.

BEERS: The guys are back on the road! We make the short trip to one of Providence’s newest breweries, Moniker, to interview the masterminds behind it all: Jeff Goodno and Bryan Benedict. In this on-site interview, Jeff and Bryan discuss their past experiences on both the brewing and branding/sales side of the brewery process, and what ultimately led them to create a new venture together. We discuss the start-up of Moniker, why they chose a former auto body shop as their destination, and what they looked for in hiring their head brewer. We also discuss their partnership with Southern-style comfort-food joint Bucktown, their close proximity to a fellow brewery (and recent podcast guest) Beer on Earth, and what’s next for Moniker.
BUSINESS: Bitcoin is rallying back! After being clamped by China a few weeks back, $BTC is showing resilience in the face of adversity. Some believe this is due to the SEC approving a Bitcoin-related ETF (ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF) which starts trading Tuesday. Could this be a wise investment? In the world of sports betting, the state of New Jersey has eclipsed $1.01 billion in wagers in a single month, shattering the previous record of $966m. Revenue is up 40% from 2021! What’s next for sports betting?
BALLS: Rapid fire!! The Yankees were bounced from the MLB playoffs, and now it has come down to 4 teams; the Red Sox, Astros, Braves, and Dodgers - who takes the crown? Who is the best team in the AFC? The Raiders roar over the Broncos in their first game without Jon Gruden; are they legit again? Hockey and basketball are back, and the College Basketball AP Top 25 Poll is out; our guys give instant reactions.

BEERS: Jake goes first in a stunning twist: he’s back at Bad Sons Brewery in Derby, Connecticut. Although most of the time, Bad Sons has failed to deliver on good beer, its new fruited sour Golden Ticket is righting the course. Fresh-off a trip to Nikki’s Liquors, Will tries Synder Bier Pretzel Marzen, a new collaboration between Snyder and popular Northeast beer brand Captain Lawrence.
BUSINESS: Just about everyone on the planet was impacted by Monday’s business storyline. Facebook and Instagram both went down due to an outage on Facebook’s servers. This comes with suspicious timing, as director of security Antigone Davis went on CNBC only a few hours earlier to defend an accusation that Facebook prioritizes “profit over safety.” It was the worst outage in over two years for a social media group. We discuss exactly what went down on Monday and give a stab at what could’ve been the culprit.
BALLS: If you’re a fellow member of Yankees Twitter, you are definitely a loyal follower of Nick Costanzo, popularly known as Stanzo among the Twitter community. We invite Stanzo to discuss Tuesday’s big Wild Card game between the Yankees and Red Sox at Fenway Park. It’s been a wild season, and somehow it produced the same results...both teams finishing with 92 wins and 70 losses. Now, it comes down to one game - one team will move onto the ALDS against the Rays, and the other is heading home. What do the Yankees have to do in order to survive and advance at Fenway Park tonight? We also discuss Tom Brady’s return to Gillette Stadium and review our “locks” of last week.

EPISODE 63
BEERS: You already know what time it is...fall beer season. Will takes it to Newport Craft to try Ungourdly Hour. You’d think this sounds like a lighter pumpkin beer, but this Strong Ale is certainly off the beaten path for fall beverages. Spicy and strong, this 9.5% beer is an interesting choice as we head into the fall months. More traditional pumpkin beer lovers might identify more with Jake’s review, as he breaks down Shipyard’s “Smashed Pumpkin” in the Pugsley Signature Series. Still standing strong at 9%, Jake takes a stab at the perfect formula for a pumpkin beer.
BUSINESS: Everyone knows the name Marvel. Whether it was the movies, the comics, or the action figures, Marvel was more than likely in your life as a child. Now, Marvel is taking the motion picture scene by storm; Shang-Chi is now the top-grossing movie in North America ($187m), just ahead of Black Widow, which dominated the box office for a good chunk of the year. Is Marvel the best motion picture company ever? How much will movies rally this year? Will this raise Disney stock ($DIS) even further? We discuss the impact Marvel has had on the movie scene and beyond.
BALLS: Two-time Super Bowl champion Dan Koppen and former MLB draft selection Tip Fairchild join the show. The two former pros join the show to discuss their new venture, the “Past Our Prime” podcast, presented by Squadlocker. We take a journey down the path of Dan’s decorated career as an Pro Bowl offensive lineman with the New England Patriots, having his number retired at the same high school as Saquon Barkley, and break down what makes Tom Brady so great. We talk baseball shop with Tip, including his professional experience playing for Sparky Lyle, alongside Roger Clemens, and his favorite moments of his career.

BEERS: This weekend, we both went south to the Mid-Atlantic region, and you know what that means: great beer. Will starts with a selection from Collusion Tap Works in York, Pennsylvania that has far reach into the beer scene. Despite being just a small brew pub in the middle of nowhere, Collusion boasts some of Pennsylvania's best beer. Will has great things to say about Xerion Matrix, a New England style IPA for which he gives a high rating. Jake takes us to Star Hill Brewery, who just released its new beer garden in McLean, Virginia; it's a must-visit.
BUSINESS: The gambling show!! With Michael Jordan declaring that he’ll be investing in sports gambling data company SportRadar, we discuss if we’re about to see major sports stars venture into the betting world. Between ESPN’s $3 billion funding call on their sportsbook rights & licensing, to more sportsbooks popping up in venues across the nation, it’s a no-brainer.
BALLS: The Saturday’s & Seltzers podcast joins the show! (18:30) We have Kendra Middleton and Sarah Griffin on the show to discuss the brand they’ve built in just a few months. Both self-proclaimed PLL experts, we discuss this past weekend’s Chaos-Whipsnakes Championship game - full disclosure, we recorded before the game, so you are definitely allowed to @OldTakesExposed us. BEERS: Will tries a very unique beer...so unique, it’s been named “America’s Best Light Lager” at this year’s World Beer Awards. Chair 2 is a Sons of Liberty creation, established in South Kingstown, but distributed nationally under its own brand...very similar to what SOL has done with Loyal Lemonade (which is DELICIOUS). Will has high praises for this new beer. Jake reviews a North Shore selection from “Lynn, Lynn, the city of sin...you don’t come out the way you came in.” Bent Water Brewing Company, a hidden gem in a warehouse right off the Lynnway, hits a home run with Sluice Juice, a New England IPA that has more hops than you knew existed.
BUSINESS: The iPhone 13 is coming!! Along with new Apple Watches and AirPods, Apple will release products at its world release events this week. When does phone technology hit its limit? Are we ever going to get the hologram keyboard that was promised to us like 10 years ago?! How will the releases affect Apple stock; is now a good time to buy, or should you wait until after the event? Also, COVID tests are coming to brick and mortar stores; they’ll be in stores at around a 35% discount off what you can normally buy them for. We debate; would you buy a covid test in a store if you were in a pinch?
BALLS: A long overdue show, but our “Writers’ Room” makes its debut! We have our in-house writers James Mas, Sam Basel, Jordan Laube, and Eddy Szalan on the show to discuss their NFL teams’ performance in Week 1. We break down the Eagles & Cardinals wins over the Falcons and Titans, and then discuss the losses...there was much sadness to go around between the Giants, Pats, and Jets. We recap Sam Darnold’s revenge game with the Panthers, Corey Davis’ new addition to the Jets receiving core, and predictions for Mac Jones’s second game. We finish with giving our locks of the week, and the top fantasy performer for next week.

We also talk about his recent trip to Woonsocket, Rhode Island and all its “hidden gems.” We discuss how content creation has changed over the years, and what’s next for Donnie & the rest of the Barstool Sports crew.
We finish our show after Donnie’s interview with some rapid fire news. El Salvador is adopting Bitcoin as an official currency; is this brilliant or dumb? College football is back, and the NFL’s return is on the horizon; we make some moneyball picks for Week 1.

BEERS: What if we told you there were two successful breweries across the street from each other? We travel to Beer on Earth for this live segment with founder Adam Henderson. Beer on Earth isn’t the biggest brewery space in Rhode Island, but Adam shares his story of turning his passion into his career...much like our friends at Side Hustle in Episode 57. As an award-winning homebrewer, Adam initially planned to start a brewery in Texas, but eventually Beer on Earth came to life in the Creative Capital. We discuss Beer on Earth going to market, where consumers can find their beer, and the competition landscape growing in Rhode Island & beyond.
BUSINESS: Chicago is putting Grubhub & DoorDash on blast. City officials are accusing DoorDash and Grubhub of harming the city’s restaurants with high fees and other deceptive practices. Can this hold up in court, and how will it affect the delivery business? We discuss the reality that Uber and Lyft might be using our battery information to hike rates on us, and Apple CEO Tim Cook’s massive 10-year-anniversary payout.
BALLS: Rapid fire is back! Our Yankees go on a thirteen game win streak & are back in the playoff race, can they sustain it? Michigan wins the Little League World Series, but is the bigger story the elite pitching rotation of South Dakota not making it to the finals? Former NFL defensive back Pacman Jones loses a fight to Bobby “Lights Out” Lang, and “Patty Ice” Cantlay beats Bryson Dechambeau in a 6-hole playoff after Bryson tells him to “please stop walking…”

BEERS: Will reviews a visit to a pop-up of a solid New England player in Widowmaker Brewing Company. Their IPA’s can be found on the taps of most Boston-area beer bars and in the cans at most local liquor stores, so Will breaks down his experience getting Widowmaker’s flagship Blue Comet straight from the source. Jake’s trip to Texas a few weeks back meant loads of craft beer, and “The Temptress” by Lakewood Brewing Company lived up to expectations. Although a 9.1% milk stout doesn’t sound ideal in the Texas heat, Temptress poured smooth and refreshing, and even sat well before a night out on the town.
BUSINESS: If you’re on OnlyFans, chances are you’re there for the suggestive content...for now, anyway. The subscription-based app has decided to ban all “sexually explicit content” on their platforms. This will certainly be a crushing blow to content creators; OnlyFans paid out $5 billion to more than 1.5 million users in its 5 years of existence. Will their 150 million + users take their preferences elsewhere? We also discuss Amazon’s double-down effort to get into brick-and-mortar models, and Elon Musk’s scary humanoid AI robot that is “naturally friendly.” GTFOH with that.
BALLS: She’s crushing her baseball coverage on NBC Sports Bay Area, she’s the host of the “All A’s” podcast, and she’s on our shortlist of recurring guests! Jess Kleinschmidt re-joins the show to catch up on what’s been a crazy baseball season so far. Of course, we take a deep-dive on Jess’ Bay Area teams, and how the Giants & A’s are climbing the ranks in their respective divisions. We discuss the rise of the Yankees, the Cubs selling off basically their entire roster, and how each frontrunner can fare up in the playoffs.

BEERS: Mike Palmieri and Lee Holyoak had unlikely paths into the beer world; Mike was an executive at AT&T, while Lee was a tennis pro at the Long Cove Club. But their passion for good beer (and Lee’s homebrewing competition medals) brought them together to form Side Hustle Beer Company, and they set up shop in a popular area of Hilton Head Island. Mike and Lee give us a glimpse into their founding, and how they turned their “side hustle” into full-time jobs. We discuss opening & scaling a brewery, getting product into people’s hands, and what they want their guests to experience when they have a Side Hustle beer.
BUSINESS: Famed investor Warren Buffett is back in the picture! Berkshire Hathaway has upped its stake in Kroger, one of the nation’s most profitable supermarket chains. Many follow Buffett’s investment advice simply based on his track record of wildly-profitable success; is this an omen of more lockdowns to come? We make our bets on what industries are going to thrive for the remainder of 2021.
BALLS: The NFL is coming! Preseason games are underway, and we discuss what they’re excited about. We also make our picks for the most exciting Hard Knocks hypothetical seasons. The Field of Dreams game last week was nothing short of a wild hit, as the White Sox and Yankees ended in a walk-off home run followed by a firework show. Should this be an annual event for the MLB? We also discuss the NBA Summer League & recap the USA Basketball team’s big gold medal win at the Tokyo Olympics.

BEERS: Apponaug Brewing Company is re-defining what it means to be a brewery. When Tamara McKenney founded Apponaug, she envisioned a place that would intertwine craft beer, community, and great food: as she calls it, the “tripod.” When she hired Mike Webster as her head brewer - who made stops at Tree House and Fox Farm - and a head chef to design a menu from the ground up, her dream was in motion. This segment is our first live interview of 2021; Will and Jake head down to Warwick to interview Tamara and Mike in person, enjoy some good beer, and top it off with their favorite - sweet potato poutine. We discuss the founding and original vision of Apponaug, the evolution of the beer program, and what’s next for Rhode Island’s quickest-growing brewpub.
BUSINESS: Snapchat is back! The social media titan recently announced it has nearly 293 million daily active users, and reported its biggest growth quarter in four years (24% from previous quarter). Lockdowns lifting and more people traveling means more posts, more engagement, and more filters! What’s next for Snapchat, and why are they crushing it among the younger crowds?
BALLS: Tokyo 2020 (or 2021? Who knows) is underway! While Basketball's 7-point loss to France is making headlines, the US has 7 gold medals at the time we recorded this episode. What’s on tap for the US olympic teams, and who’s in line to get medals? The guys rank the new additions to the olympic lineup this year - karate, surfing, sport climbing, and skateboarding. We also react to the “Guardians” becoming the new name of the Cleveland baseball team, and give some light analysis on the 2021 NBA Draft this Thursday.

BEERS: Where else but Long Live?! Will swung by the Providence favorite this weekend to try their newest collaboration, “DDH Sea Life,” made in partnership with South Shore-based Vitamin Sea Brewing. With the engagement of so many users on Untappd and beyond, the guys turn this into a discussion on marketing for breweries - how can beer brands use social media to get more customers coming back? Jake reviews Brick Alley House Ale, from the notorious Brick Alley Pub in Newport. A good selection for a humid summer day is awarded the first “situational” ranking in podcast history (we think).
BUSINESS (17:17): When David Woodley graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Economics, he never would’ve imagined the way his career turned. From selling advertisements at popular satire outlet The Onion, to becoming a partner and advisor to large hospitality and podcasting mediums, David has picked up a wealth of knowledge over his journey in corporate America. It’s now led him to become the Chief Content & Revenue Officer at Playmaker: a sports media, events, and merchandise company with a 12+ million-follower social footprint. David discusses why Playmaker has been able to garner a titanic following on social media, why their content resonates so well with their followers, and what’s next for the brand. David also breaks down Playmaker’s endeavors in athlete representation: from Carlos Boozer and Nate Robinson, to college athletes getting a piece of the pie, there’s much to be excited about from Playmaker.
BALLS: Since we last recorded, the Milwaukee Bucks are 3-0! Are we their X-factor? We predict the results of Game 6 (and potentially Game 7), and break down the Suns’ chances of pulling off a solid two-game comeback. The NHL Expansion Draft takes place on Wednesday, which means the Seattle Kraken will officially have a roster. Is the current format of the draft causing more harm than it is good? Finally, Red Sox left fielder Alex Verdugo was plunked with a ball thrown from the crowd mid-game; the fan that hit him has been banned for life at all 30 MLB stadiums. Is this an overreaction or a fitting punishment?

BEERS: Maine Brewing Company is always a favorite of ours, and this week, Will reviews Lunch...you can have it for lunch OR dinner (or breakfast) and it’ll hit different regardless. Will also tells us why Peroni on draft is an elite beer. Jake reviews Affluente, a beer we received courtesy of our friends at Blackstone Valley Brewing Supplies in Woonsocket. This Italian pilsner from Tributary Brewing Company (Maine) is a nice summer selection that will have you craving more.
BUSINESS: Where did Richard Branson come from?! The billionaire CEO of Virgin Galactic embarked on a trip that sent him more than 50 miles above the Earth’s surface in a test-run before commercial flights to space launch in the US. What does this mean for Virgin’s stock ($SPCE) and how does it fit in to a now-crowded space market? If you thought that was the most bizarre news you’ll see this week, how about “The Mooch” coming back! Anthony Scaramucci, a former White House Chief of Staff for about a week, announced on a podcast that he launched an ethereum fund and has filed for an ETF. He also received a “mystery investment” for $6 million; who could possibly be joining forces with The Mooch?!
BALLS: (18:46) Andy Katz has done it all in his long career; from highs of filling out 8 March Madness brackets with Barack Obama, to lows of being a victim of the 2017 ESPN layoffs, it’s safe to say Andy is one of the most well-traveled college basketball experts of our generation. Andy discusses his entry into the college basketball world, idolizing Peter Gammons and other Boston-area sports journalists, and some of the relationships he made to get to ESPN. With name, image, and likeness regulations being eased in the college sports world, we discuss how college basketball could be affected, and what challenges present in its wake. The guys talk Shaq, the best spots to eat in Rhode Island, and his tennis career. Will & Jake finish with a quick rapid-fire on a jam-packed week in sports.

BEERS: With June 21st comes summer, and with summer comes outdoor beer! It’s Sour Season once again, and the guys are coming in HOT out of the gates. Will recaps his visit to Narragansett Brewing Company’s new taproom at India Point Park in Providence, and reviews Dragonfruit Sour - an awesome summer sour that’ll leave you coming back. Jake reviews Summer Ginger Sour by Brewport, an up-and-coming spot in Bridgeport, Connecticut. If you like ginger, this is your beer; the guys follow it up with how great this would be in a cocktail.
THIS WEEK’S GUEST: Zac Stuart-Pontier might not be a household name, but you’re more than likely familiar with his work. The two-time Emmy Award winner was recognized for his editorial work in The Jinx, Catfish, and other blockbuster films with HBO. Zac was the brains behind Crimetown, a podcast series highlighting Buddy Cianci and the history of organized crime in Providence’s “glory days.” Zach sits down with the guys to discuss his entry into the film career, getting people to trust him with such a “taboo” topic, playing a key role in pioneering the podcast game, and his favorite eats in Rhode Island.
BUSINESS: Crypto Crash 2.0 is here! This week, China banned financial firms from actively aiding in mining Crypto, causing Bitcoin to hit rock bottom...losing 15% of its value in June. Does this dip make an attractive buy scenario?
BALLS: The big, bad Philadelphia 76ers got bounced by the Atlanta Hawks, and are eliminated from the playoffs. Where does Ben Simmons (now definitely considered a “true bust”) end up after a disappointing NBA playoff series? The guys run through their predictions as the Conference Finals are underway.

BEERS: It’s the first week of June, and the summer days are coming! That means outdoor afternoon beers are BACK! We pregamed the Newport Polo event with a couple of drinks at Newport Craft Brewing & Distilling (compliments of our friend Brendan O’Donnell), and what a time it was. Will reviews the “Annual 20” selection, a special-release farmhouse ale that comes out once a year (as the name suggests). Jake tries “Castle Hill Windward Weiss,” a light Hefeweizen perfect for the hot summer months. Head to Newport Craft Brewing & Distilling whenever you’re in southern Rhode Island!
BUSINESS: We talk about crypto every single episode, and our Episode 52 guest is no exception. Kyle Seyboth, one of New England’s top-performing realtors, made real estate history when he became the first known person to sell a plot of land for Dogecoin. How did he pull off the transaction, and why was crypto the preferred method of selling? We discuss Kyle’s rise to “real estate royalty,” the lessons he’s learned along the way, and why he believes he’s been so successful. The guys get Kyle’s opinions on sports & gambling, and uncover why his only drink of choice is Captain Morgan...with a splash of Coke.
BALLS: The Yankees are hurting the guys’ hearts more than they’re stinking up the AL East standings. They’ve lost 10 of the last 13 contests, and have just been swept by their sworn enemies in the Boston Red Sox. What gives, and what has to change? One thing is for sure; the NBA Playoffs might be more appetizing for our hosts. With one round in the books, what have we learned and what’s surprised us? What’s to make of the LA Lakers losing to the red-hot Phoenix Suns in the first round, the Knicks getting bounced by the Hawks, and the Clippers taking a hard-fought Game 7 against the Mavericks? We finish with playoff hockey and the Floyd Mayweather-Logan Paul fight on Sunday night; good entertainment or a fraud?

The Big Apple - stand up! It’s New York Rangers prospect Brett Berard joining the show this week. The product of East Greenwich, Rhode Island joins us from his dorm room at Providence College to discuss his hockey journey so far, and what’s to come. Brett recaps his time with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, foregoing his high school career to chase his dream. We discuss being born & raised in a hockey family, having to choose between his dad’s program and PC, and playing alongside future NHL stars. Brett also discusses his time on the USA National Team this past winter, scoring a goal against Slovakia en route to a World Championship gold medal.
BEERS: Two favorite breweries are back! Will reviews Far Out There, a selection from his hometown Greenport Harbor Brewing Company. “Big and juicy,” as the can says, this one will have you ready for summer; plenty of Citra and Mosaic hops are the stars, and the melon & orange notes will have you licking your lips for more. Jake returned to Bad Sons Brewery in Derby, Connecticut for the new edition of Light Rider, an easy-drinking lager. Now that they’ve changed the recipe, this one gets some high praises from the craft beer community in New England; they added a tiny hint of Chardonnay to make it sweeter to the palate.
BUSINESS: So many happenings in the crypto world that it’s getting hard to keep up with it. After 52-week highs across the board, cryptos took bad losses the past week for many reasons; and all of them are about Elon Musk. Dogecoin ($DOGE) suffered nearly 40-percent losses when it was shorted by investors after Elon’s SNL appearance, and just a few days later, he told the public that Tesla would rethink using Bitcoin ($BTC) for car purchases while they evaluate its carbon emissions. Dave Portnoy is sending Safemoon into a frenzy after selecting a random “Shitcoin” to invest $40k, and “not sell no matter what.” What’s next in this wild crypto ride?

It’s one of the most complete interviews we’ve ever done on Beers, Business, and Balls: we welcome Brendan O’Donnell to the show this week.
Brendan’s path to the beer industry was one of the most unconventional, yet interesting stories we’ve ever heard. Brendan started school at Roanoke College in Virginia with nothing more than an interest in business and his Sigma Chi fraternity brothers. After working in finance for a few years, he finally decided he wanted more out of his life, and began his journey into craft beer.
Brendan purchased then-Newport Storm Brewery; a brand that was doing well, but needed work. Since then, Newport Craft Brewing & Distilling Company has blossomed into a household name throughout New England. What is making Brendan so successful, and how is Newport Craft growing their market share in the Northeast? We discuss Brendan’s new acquisitions of Radiant Pig and Braven, his new endeavor onto the New York Stock Exchange, and a rum partnership with the New York Mets.

ONE YEAR! We finally made it! On behalf of all of us at House Enterprise, we’d like to thank each and every one of you that engages with our content and listens each week. We couldn’t do it without you! For our one year anniversary episode, it was only right to bring back two guests who were with us from the very beginning.
You know Dave Silverman from Episode #2, but mostly from his role as the New England Patriots team photographer. Dave joins us to reminisce on his stories from shooting some of the greatest football moments of all-time, break down Julian Edelman’s retirement, and relive his experience swimming with sharks in Mexico.
John Fanta - what more can be said? The undisputed #1 Sam Adams fan in New Jersey joins us to crush a few beers and recap the last few months we’ve been apart - after all, John is the only 3-time guest in BBB history! John catches us up on all his accomplishments in the college basketball world - from being the youngest Play-by-Play Announcer on the FOX Sports roster this year, to covering the NCAA Tournament at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indiana, John has been quite the well-traveled figure this year. We also break down the Cleveland sports scene; the Browns’ rise to the top, and the Indians’ uncertain future ahead.

BEERS: With baseball back and in full swing, Will reviews Pinstripe Pils by Blue Point Brewing Company. With a can decked out in Yankee pinstripes, it’s hard not to picture yourself at the stadium crushing a few light beers. Jake reviews a collaboration from Revival Brewing Company and Union Station Brewery after visiting their new location on Sims Street in Providence. A blueberry-vanilla sour, Phoenix Rising is a must-have in the Rhode Island area if you like sours.
BUSINESS: Kim Anderson, the founder of plant-based restaurant and marketplace Plant City, joins us to discuss what she is building in Providence and beyond. Plant City started as an idea: what if plant-based eating was an experience, rather than a diet or fad? Now, Plant City has become one of the fastest-growing entities in New England; they’ve served 700,000 guests in their 2 years of existence, saved 361 million gallons of water and 300,000 animal lives - all while sourcing their ingredients locally. We discuss Kim’s drive to make the world a better place while being able to turn a profit, and why every entrepreneur must have a degree of social responsibility.
BALLS: The NCAA tournament like no other has come to a close. What did we learn, who surprised us, and what’s next? The guys are loving UCLA and what’s to come, and recap their historic run. In other news, baseball! Opening Week started off with a bang - the Reds’ Nick Castellanos was ejected and suspended after having some choice words with a Cardinals pitcher, Detroit’s Akil Baddoo made an incredible splash in his MLB debut, and the White Sox’s Yermin Mercedes started the year going 8 for 8. Did Eloy Jimenez die, or are the White Sox just beyond extra? We also give some betting favorites for The Masters, scheduled to tee off on Thursday morning.

MARCH MADNESS IS BACK! We officially have a bracket, so there’s no better way to break it down than with Twitter’s favorite college basketball personality, Captain Xavier. We also bring in our House writer (see what we did there?), Sam Basel, who’s been killing it all year covering the A-10 and NYC-area college hoops for us. Cap is sad about the brutal end to the season for the Musketeers, who were bounced in the first round of the Big East tournament by Butler - but he’s very much looking forward to making some wild predictions for this year’s Big Dance. We discuss our initial reactions to the bracket, which #1 seed has the easiest path to the Final Four, and which Big East team is most likely to make a run at the title. We also give our traditional Bracket Buster pick, and add in our “psycho picks” - the upsets that no one will see coming. We end with Cap’s Mount Rushmore of College Basketball Twitter personalities.
BEERS: The guys recap a trip to northern New Hampshire, which is one of the most densely-populated states for breweries in the nation. They first break down their visit to New Hampshire Wine & Liquor Outlet - a total tourist trap, but cheap beer and wine will always be a must-hit. Will, who just hit 1,000 unique beers on UnTappd, celebrates with a 6-glass flight at One Love Brewery in Lincoln, NH. Mixed vibes for sure - a garden meets a sports bar, but their beer was right in the middle of the road. Jake reviews a New Hampshire selection from Woodstock Inn Brewery called “Old Man Oatmeal Stout,” which he paired with a few Short Rib Tacos outside at the makeshift “igloos'' on the patio. He thinks it was a nice, easygoing craft choice for a colder day, but might reach for something else if offered.
BUSINESS: Introducing LeRedSox! LeBron James and his business partner Maverick Carter have reportedly bought a $6 million stake in Fenway Sports Group, the holding company that owns the Boston Red Sox. Many believe this is LeBron’s first step towards owning a professional team of his own. How involved will LeBron be with the Crimson Hose? We also discuss Elon Musk’s latest escapade: changing his official title to TechnoKing, and dragging his CFO into the fire with him as the new “Master of Coin.” Genius or sorcery?

The crossover pod you’ve been waiting for! This week, Mike Gilligan and Oliver Martel from “Small State Big Takes” join us for our first ever collab show. In the true spirit of collaboration, we start this week’s show as the SSBT guys do every week: with our “big take” of the day. The takes were big, controversial, and raunchy…ranging from Damian Lillard to how you like to eat your muffin.
BEERS: We start as we always do: searching for the best craft beer on the planet. Will and Jake return to their Tree House roots and review two classics: Moment of Clarity and Curiosity Fifty Seven. Gilli, who just moved to Philly (yes, we know it rhymes) stops at a Pennsylvania classic, Yards Brewing Company, to review Philadelphia Pale Ale. Oliver keeps it simple with a classic Blue Moon.
BUSINESS: The rage over non-fungible tokens, or NFT’s, has grown significantly in the last few weeks. Second-to-none is NBA Top Shot, the nation’s hottest marketplace to own “moments” from all sorts of basketball players. Will these NFT marketplaces replace the thrill and wonder of a good-ole-fashioned pack of trading cards? What’s next for digital memorabilia? The guys also react to the news that Mark Cuban will allow Mavericks fans to pay for tickets and fan gear in Dogecoin, a viral cryptocurrency that’s gained significant exposure. Is it a pure publicity stunt or secretly genius?
BALLS: Our inaugural Pod vs. Pod Conference Pick ‘Em Challenge is on! Both podcasts will pick the winners of seven conference tournaments. We’ll compete for bragging rights, switching our Twitter profile pics for 24 hours, and a small donation to the opposing podcast’s charity.

If you’re a baseball person, you know Bobby V. But even if you don’t keep up with America’s pastime, there’s still a chance you know this week’s guest for a few reasons: as an ESPN analyst, a restaurant owner in southern Connecticut, or most notably, a “master of disguise.”
We are honored to have Bobby Valentine on our show this week to reflect on a career with a plethora of accomplishments. We recall Bobby’s days at USC - from rooming with future Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner, to his time in the Sigma Chi Fraternity with 3-time Super Bowl Champion coach Mike Holmgren. Bobby reminisces on nearly stealing home his Major League debut, playing a role in 3 of Nolan Ryan’s no-hitters, and his “catcher’s balk” disguise incident in 1999 as the manager of the New York Mets. We break down Bobby’s opinions on the future of the game of baseball and the inevitable universal designated hitter rule. We shift gears to chat with Bobby about his role as the Athletic Director at Sacred Heart University, the gaps he had to fill going from professional to collegiate athletics, and what’s to come for the SHU Pioneers in the near future.
BEERS: Vermont is known for its skiing scene and scenic outdoor activities, but its craft beer market is one of the best in New England. Will tries Big Bang by Foley Brothers Brewing - an unfiltered single IPA with some of our favorite hops, he thinks this is one you should have on the list. Jake goes back to his Connecticut roots and reviews a classic - Sea Hag by New England Brewing Company. A staple at any gathering and a great contribution for a friend’s party, Sea Hag is one of the most crushable IPA’s in the region.
BUSINESS: Texas suffers its worst nightmare: after basically freezing over, there are still millions without power, thousands in need of shelter, and hundreds dead. Why wasn’t Texas prepared for a winter storm in the same way that the Northeast or Midwest would’ve been? We break down some potential factors, and look into some stocks you might be able to take advantage of...if they can make it out of this mess alive.
BALLS: San Diego Padres standout shortstop Fernando Tatis inks himself a HUGE deal for $340 million over 13 years. How does this change the game for young stars that will hit free agency in the first few years of the 2020’s?

While the Super Bowl is over, we have more football content for you! Jake Wallach, or “JWall” as his fans affectionately know him, won the Madden Club Championship on February 9th - he joins the show to relive his big victory. JWall takes us through the process of qualifying for a competitive Madden tournament, his 14-6 win over one of the best Madden players in the nation, and his strategy to take him down. We also discuss JWall’s love for the Detroit Lions, and Calvin Johnson’s recent Hall of Fame induction.
BEERS: Brewery Ommegang: “where heaven met earth,” according to its website, isn’t really a far stretch. Will reviews Neon Rainbows from the Cooperstown brewer, and his rating is probably worth you heading to Untappd.com to find out if you’re one of the 47 states that Ommegang distributes to. Jake takes a trip down the Pawtuxet River to Apponaug Brewing Company in Warwick, RI. To the naked eye, it’s a “come for the food, stay for the vibes, and drink some beer in the meantime” vibe...but is Apponaug actually a hidden gem in Rhode Island? Jake reviews “Lakerunner,” a West Coast pale ale that might have him coming back sooner than he thought.
BUSINESS: With plenty of high tensions in the market over the past few weeks, it’s refreshing to hear about a trailblazing entrepreneur making moves. Whitney Wolfe Herd is officially the youngest self-made female billionaire in history after she led Bumble to its IPO this past week; it’s already up around 5% in the first few days of trading. We break down Bumble’s attractive case to buy, and Whitney Wolfe Herd’s long journey to bringing her company public.
BALLS: Are you lost without football? We are. We reminisce on a game that shocked many, as Tom Brady collected his 7th Super Bowl ring. What’s next for Brady? Who will the Buccaneers retain as the free agency rumors begin? After demanding a release from the Houston Texans, where will JJ Watt look to play football in 2021? We also break down the recent success of the New York Knicks, who currently enjoy a 6th-place marker in the Eastern Conference.

EPISODE 40
Super Bowl Sunday has finally arrived! It’s the Chiefs and the Bucs - can Tom Brady separate his legacy from the New England Patriots and win yet another title, or will it be Patrick Mahomes’ time to take over as the face of the NFL? We bring in former NFL safety Quintin Demps to discuss his career, what he learned from Andy Reid, and what to expect this weekend.
BEERS
Is it IPA season again? Will reviews “Totally Tubular” from Orono Brewing Company in Maine, and its tropical notes have us dreaming of warmer places...well, anywhere that doesn’t have a foot of snow on the ground. Jake reviews “Peeptoad” from nearby Tilted Barn Brewing, to which he makes a comparison to another Rhode Island staple.
BUSINESS
You’d have to be living under a rock to not be aware of what’s going on in the stock market these past few weeks, and who better than our friend Zaid Admani to discuss it! In a relentless battle of “Bros vs. Suits,” the stock market endured a “short squeeze,” in which a group of Reddit users convinced many retail investors to pump up stocks in order to inflict massive losses on hedge funds who had “shorted” their share of these companies. GameStop, AMC, and BlackBerry had all benefited from the short squeeze - some users report gaining as much as 1700% on their positions. We break down the events of last week and ponder if this could be the new norm. We also discuss the recent resignation of Jeff Bezos, and what it could mean for the future of Amazon.
BALLS
Quintin Demps grew from a city kid growing up in San Antonio with a single mother to a standout defensive back at UTEP. He earned himself a 4th-round draft pick to the Eagles, was mentored by 9-time Pro-Bowler Brian Dawkins, and quickly found himself one win away from the 2009 Super Bowl...only to be walked off by a last-minute touchdown pass from Hall of Famer Kurt Warner. Demps reminisces on his memories of the league, the lessons he learned from now-Chiefs head coach Andy Reid during his time in Philadelphia, and being carved apart by Tom Brady during the four times in his career they played each other. We also discuss the mental and financial struggles with life after football, how to fix the Texans, what Deshaun Watson’s mentality should be going forward, and if Patrick Mahomes has a legitimate claim to the “Face of the NFL” title with a win.

When you think of the wine industry, you probably think of the rolling Tuscan hills, old money, and dressing to the nines for a fun Saturday fall afternoon with your friends. But it means far more to Sigma Chi alumnus Brandon Chaney, who left his career to pursue winemaking full-time. The proprietor and founder of Fairwinds Estates Winery in Napa Valley, Brandon is an accomplished tech entrepreneur who left his job to chase his passion for making (and drinking) great wines. As Brandon tells us, it certainly has not been all sunshines and rainbows - Fairwinds lost most of their property to the lethal Glass Fires in October 2020. How did the experience change Brandon's outlook on his passion, and how are they rebuilding? We unpack a lot in our "Business" segment with Brandon Chaney this week, and we're excited to share his story with you.

Can’t get enough Bryant Bulldogs breaking barriers and re-inventing entire industries? Nick Cianfaglione joins us this week to discuss his founding of Artist Republik, a platform for independent artists & musicians. We discuss his method of tearing down barriers for creators to monetize and market their products, and the ordeal that artists usually encounter with their “managers.” How can an independent musician monetize their work without coughing up a large chunk of their earnings to their managers’ pockets? What’s the best way to distribute songs on a low budget? Nick gives us answers that every artist should be dying to know. We also discuss how he built a duct-tape wallet empire in his middle school days, and his desperate plea to the creators of Fortnite.
BEERS: Tree. ******. House. We brought back a haul from the “Brewery on the Hill” in Charlton this past weekend, and it certainly did not disappoint. Meanwhile, in his quest to break 1,000 beers before 2021, Will reviews the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Peppermint Porter by Lexington Brewing Company. He’s got 37 left to go in just 14 days – can he do it?
BUSINESS: As we mentioned last week, AirBnB was one of the most highly anticipated IPO’s of our time. We expected the stock to rise after officially being listed on the markets last week, but how did they pull off more than a 100% increase in less than 2 days? The guys evaluate if AirBnB could be one of the stocks you wished you bought 5 years from now.
BALLS: Both the Giants and the Patriots suffered tough losses against powerhouse opponents this week, and – although we don’t want to – we break down what went wrong for the increasingly-less-likely playoff hopefuls. Contenders and Pretenders reprises itself for another week – who is legit, and who is just here for the ride? Our choices might surprise you.

Big shoutout to our friends at Long Live Beerworks, too - they launched their new renditions of Frozie Cup and Jenny Graham, both available at their Providence location.
BUSINESS: It’s day trading heaven!...or is it? AirBnB is expected to list itself on the New York Stock Exchange this Thursday, and all eyes are on the app that changed tourism forever. After changing its expected sell price multiple times, it appears CEO Brian Chesky has come to an agreement with the SEC and investment banks that they’ll hit the exchange at $60 - up from $44, $50, and $56. What’s in store for AirBnb? Should you buy it as soon as it hits the market, or wait for it to settle?

After another weird week of football and plenty of upsets (shoutout Giants, Pats, and Washington), our teams in the top tier may surprise you. We also discuss the blockbuster Westbrook/Wall trade, and what it means for the futures of the two highly-touted (and overpaid) point guards.
